On July 4, 2025, the Institute Council of the Institute of Government and Public Policies (IGOP) took place, in which the work done was taken stock and the provisional report of the activity developed throughout 2024 was presented. During the same session, Dr. Margarita León was elected as the new director of the institution, succeeding Dr. Ismael Blanco. The new director expressed her gratitude for the work done by her predecessor in this last term.

The new management expressed its desire to manage the Institute from a proximity to the people who make up the organization and from a horizontal perspective, sharing decisions with the entire team.

Dra. Margarita León

BA, MA, PhD London School of Economics (United Kingdom, 2000) is Professor of Political Science at the Universitat Autònoma Barcelona (UAB). Before joining the UAB she was Professor of European Social Policy at the University of Kent (2004-2010). She has been a Marie Curie Postdoctoral Researcher at the European University Institute of Florence (2001-03) and a Ramón y Cajal Researcher at the IGOP (2010-2015). She is also a Visiting Professor at the University of Berkeley, California (Fulbrigth, 2018) and at the University of Oxford (2025). Her main areas of research are comparative social policy and welfare state reform. She has published in numerous international scientific journals and books. Her most recent popular book is El Arte de Pactar: Desigualdad, Estado de Bienestar y Acuerdo social (Ediciones La Catarata, 2023). In 2018, she was awarded the ICREA ACADEMIA for excellence in research for a period of five years.
