Creative, smart, startup, platform urbanism: exploring the variegated urbanisation of technology-based capitalist economies
Escola de l’IGOP (Pg. Urrutia, 17 Barcelona)
Seminario abierto + Ruta «Pinxu-Panxo»
His work is concerned with the politics of urban and regional development, drawing on critical theory (particularly the so-called Radical Italian thought, from Agamben to Hardt, Negri, Virno) and political economy (particularly its cultural-Marxist and post-structuralist variants).
His new book titled Cities in Global Capitalism (Polity, Cambridge) came out in early 2017. In the book he offers an account of the contradictions and potentialities of today’s biopolitical urbanism at the global level. Between late 2017 and early 2018 a new book he has co-edited with Theresa Enright (University of Toronto) titled The Urban Political: Ambivalent Spaces of Late Neoliberalism will come out. In this book they explore the ambivalences in the political condition of the neoliberal city in terms of both emancipatory possibilities and existing governmentalities.
His current empirical research is concerned with different forms of technology-based urban economies, from smart-city projects to start-up economies. His research aims to critique the individualised idea of happiness associated with today’s technology-based urbanism.
